A friend recently told me that she is the last one of her kind – all her relatives are dead and she feels lonely. Left behind in this world. I told her about what my grandma had said long time ago: Families fluctuate from the side of the living to the side of the dead like a long wave of the ocean. When the majority of the family is on the side of the dead, the few living family members profit from a large council of helpers, guides and guardians on the other side. Those are the individuals that seem wise beyond their years as they have access to the knowledge of the family members on the other side.
A quickly growing, new family with few people on the other side doesn’t look at things very deeply by comparison. They prefer dealing with the practical realities of the material world and are often unwilling to listen to their ancestors or are totally unaware of them. All families move through both phases in alternating waves. I felt this was great advice from my grandma as it reminded me that we are never alone, even if (most of) our families have already passed on to the other side. Often they become even stronger allies and closer friends than they were during their lifetimes.
